Charles Barkley refuses to back down from claim about Timberwolves, Nuggets
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Nuggets are a step closer to defending their 2023 title after taking down the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5. They have completely taken the momentum from their opponents despite Anthony Edwards’ denial of it being the case.

Now that the Wolves are only a loss away from elimination, the eyes of the entire league is focused on them. With Rudy Gobert getting hit with another heavy fine, it’s not an exaggeration to think that the Timberwolves are all over the place as they try to wrestle control back and force a Game 7.

While the entire world waits for the axe to fall on Minnesota’s season, Charles Barkley continues to stand by his claims. He made a wild claim about the Timberwolves being the better team than the Nuggets after they took the initiative.

Now that the defending champions are ahead, it doesn’t seem like Sir Charles’ thoughts are changing any time soon.

Charles Barkley insists that the Denver Nuggets are still inferior to the Minnesota Timberwolves

Barkley addressed Mike Malone’s comments before Game 5 about how he collected a series of statements made by Barkley and other analysts and showed it to his team to serve as motivation.

He stood by his statements and believed that his statement still rings true, as reported by Yardbarker’s Sai Mohan:

“He wants to act like he played a tape — I don’t care,” Barkley said of Malone. “I’ve always liked Michael Malone, but he annoys me because he thinks, ‘Hey I won the championship.’ He ain’t the greatest thing since sliced bread. We only can go by what we saw and if you watched those first two games…”

It’s understandable to see where Barkley is coming from. While it is great that Malone won a ring with the Denver Nuggets, it’s also important to remember that he’s not the sole reason the team won against the Boston Celtics.

Both sides are coming from different perspectives, but that doesn’t make one any more wrong than the other. However, the only way Malone and the Nuggets can prove Barkley wrong is by finishing the series in Minnesota.
