Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce reveals his plans for free agent acquisition Andrus Peat
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders, in a strategic move, didn't make a flurry of signings in free agency like some other teams. They made calculated moves, such as the impactful signing of Christian Wilkins, and continued their strategic approach after the draft.

The Raiders, with a clear focus on strengthening their offensive line, made significant changes this offseason. They allowed Jermaine Eluemunor and Greg Van Roten to depart, but their draft picks Jackson Powers-Johnson and D.J. Glaze, along with the signing of Andrus Peat, are set to make a substantial impact.

The Raiders have made a significant addition to their roster, signing Andrus Peat, a seasoned player who has demonstrated versatility across the offensive line with the New Orleans Saints. This move underscores the team's commitment to depth, a crucial element for every successful team. Head coach Antonio Pierce shared his thoughts on the impact of this signing.

"Veteran, Pro Bowler inside at guard," Pierce said. "Gives you some flexibility at left tackle. What we wanted to do, and [Tom] Telesco did a hell of a job, and we talked about it, is creating depth amongst our offensive line. We want a legit eight to nine guys. I want competition in every room.

"I want guys to be looking around and say, 'Man, I can't have a bad day.' There's no such thing as having a bad day. And you get a veteran presence who has been there and done it, and that helps a guy like Munford grow and learn. He also could teach you some tricks of the trade with Kolton Miller. So, his experience, and I always say that I value guys who've played in the league and played at a high level. He gives us that."

Pierce also mentioned that the Raiders will keep Peat on the left side.

As for their rookie Glaze, he said he is comfortable playing on the left or right side. Having Peat gives the Raiders the comfortability to play him at guard and tackle for depth purposes while also allowing Glaze to develop on the right side along with Thayer Munford. Signing Peat was very smart on their end.
